LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- The league’s four teams that were in action this past week were all in San Antonio swimming at the Trinity Tiger Invitational and at the site of the 2019 SCAC Championship meet - Palo Alto College Natatorium.
Sparked by an individual title by junior Jio Chang on Sunday, the Colorado College women’s finished in third place. The Tigers ended the meet with 424 points, behind Trinity with 802 points and Henderson State with 646. Chang posted CC’s lone victory of the meet in the 200 fly, winning the race with a time of 2:11.86, more than one second faster than the second-place finisher, Ashley Harmon of Southwestern. Freshman Key Macfarland wrapped up her impressive weekend with a third-place result in the 1,650 free, and junior diver Riley Wadehra posted a third-place finish on the 1-meter board.
The McMurry women posted a ninth-place finish at the Trinity Invitational with senior Monica Flores pacing the War Hawks efforts.
First-years Ashley Harmon and Jesse Stovall set multiple school records to help the Southwestern women finish fourth in the nine-team Trinity Invitational with a score of 310. Stovall broke school records with victories in the 100 free (52.16) and 100 fly (57.19), and she helped set the pace early for the Pirates, posting a team-best 23.54 split in the 200 free relay as the team posted a third-place finish (1:37.80). Harmon finished second in the 1650 free, breaking the school record with a time of 18:02.93. She also placed second in the 200 fly (2:13.40).
The Trinity women chalked up 802 points to take top honors at its own Invitational. Mabel Fowler broke her own school record in the women’s 200 back with an NCAA ‘B’ cut time of 2:01.25. She earlier set a Trinity record and earned a ‘B’ Cut in the 200 free, and broke the school mark in the 500 free. Paige Johnson was a third-place finisher. The women’s 400 free relay title went to the Trinity team of Fowler, Johnson, Star Rosales, and Morgen Reyna, who swam the event in 3:29.89, one second off the school record. Fowler, Reyna, Rosales, and Jadyn Trahan were runners-up in the 200 medley relay by a tick more than a second. Katarina Partales posted an NCAA mark of 291.55 in the women’s 1-meter competition, and Maren Merwarth was second. Partales also won the high-board event in Saturday’s session.
Teams will take the Thanksgiving weekend off before returning to the pool the weekend of Friday, November 30 and Saturday, December 1. Centenary College and the University of the Ozarks will compete at the Hendrix College Invite while McMurry University will host Austin College in a dual.
