Trinity Sweep Highlights All-SCAC Women's Tennis Announcement

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - After winning the program's eighth consecutive Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's tennis title, the Trinity University Tigers were rewarded with a sweep of the three major awards in exclusive all-conference voting by the league's head coaches. Complete Release

Caroline Kutach was selected the SCAC Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Year for the second consecutive year while teammate and first-year Hailey Feuer was tabbed Newcomer-of-the-Year. Capping off the selections, Trinity head coach Gretchen Rush was voted SCAC Women's Coach-of-the-Year.

Kutach, a senior from McGregor, Texas, posted a 12-4 mark (9-2 against D3 competition) at the No. 1 line for the Tigers and is currently the ITA ninth-ranked singles player in the West Region. A three-time SCAC Player-of-the-Week during the 2019 season, Kutach had four wins against regionally-ranked opponents in singles play. She is just the 13th player in league history to become a four-time all-SCAC First Team honoree, and the eighth to earn multiple Player-of-the-Year awards. Kutach's selection marks a record 12th time a Trinity student-athlete has earned SCAC Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Year honors.

The voting for Player-of-the-Year was very tight as four different players were placed atop All-SCAC ballots. In addition to Kutach, Mary Cardone and Esther Bowers of Southwestern University as well as Kutach's teammate Zoe Kaffen all received votes for POTY.

Feuer, who transferred from Hofstra University last January, became Trinity's first SCAC Newcomer of the Year since the accolade was initiated in 2014. The Phoenix, Arizona, resident has amassed a 9-4 singles record, with a 5-2 mark on the fourth line, and a 2-0 count at #5 singles which included a February victory against NCAA Division I member Texas A&M University-Corpus Christi, for the Tigers' only win in the match. She was tabbed as the SCAC Women's Tennis Player of the Week for her performance.

Feuer received four first-place votes followed by Nina Elez of Southwestern University who received two votes.  Jennifer Garcia of Schreiner University received the remaining first-place vote.

In her fifth year at the helm of the Trinity women's tennis program, head coach Gretchen Rush led the Tigers to their eighth consecutive SCAC Championship earlier this month with a 5-2 victory over Southwestern University. With the win, Trinity receives the league's automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament. The Tigers, who are ranked 19th in the latest ITA NCAA Division III poll and fourth in the West Region, have chalked up a 13-6 overall record and stand at 13-1 against NCAA Division III opponents. The award represents the second time that Rush has won Coach-of-the-Year honors – she earned Co-Coach-of-the-Year honors following the 2017 season.
