Trinity Upsets Centenary to Advance to SCAC Semifinals

SEGUIN, Texas - Danny Rivara's jumper in the lane with 22 seconds remaining was the difference as sixth-seeded Trinity held off and upset third-seeded Centenary, 65-63, in Friday's quarterfinal nightcap of the 2019 SCAC Men's Basketball Tournament. Official Tournament WebsitePost-game Interview w/ Trinity

Rivara's shot gave the Tigers the lead at 63-62 and Centenary missed a three-point attempt on the return trip that was rebounded by Jordan Lippman. His two free throws gave Trinity the 65-62 lead, setting up the Gents with the ball and a chance to tie. The Tigers fouled Treylan Matthews early in the possession and the senior made his first before missing his second free throw to cut the lead to 65-63 with :07 remaining. Rivara, who rebounded the missed free throw, missed his first free throw but a lane violation gave Centenary one more shot. An attempt at the buzzer by Matthews that would have tied the game didn't fall and Trinity survived to play another day.
