Southwestern Eliminated from NCAA Tournament; Osgood Qualifies as Individual

NICHOLASVILLE, Ky. -- The Southwestern University Pirates failed to make the cut at the NCAA Division III men's golf team competition yesterday, finishing the competition tied for 24th with a two-day total of 625. Only the top 18 teams qualified to continue play into Thursday’s third round, and the Pirates finished five shots short of the cut line.

Although the team’s tournament was cut short, Southwestern junior Cade Osgood made the cut as an individual and continues play today.

Osgood paced the Pirates on day two with a score of 74. Taking bogies on 12 and 17 and a double-bogie on 16, Osgood managed birdies on 13, 14 and 18 to score 1-over through the first nine. The junior stayed hot heading into the second nine, birdieing on 1 and 2 to put him 1-under par. However, a bogie and double-bogie late in the round lifted his score to 2-over on the day.

Matthew Christl fired a 78 in the second round, completing the competition with a two-day total of 151. Devon Horne finished one-stroke behind Christl in round two with a score of 79 while Josh Kellum and Sutherland Stith shot 92 and 93, respectively.

Senior Colin Uecker of Texas Lutheran, who earned one of six individual bids to the tournament, was also eliminated, finishing with a two-day total of 155.
