Colorado College Holds Off Southwestern for SCAC Men's Lacrosse Title

IRVING, Texas -- Colorado College pulled out to a six goal lead late in the third period only to see that lead evaporate to two before eventually holding off Southwestern, 13-10, in the championship game of the 2019 SCAC Men's Lacrosse Tournament Sunday afternoon on the campus of the University of Dallas. HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Behind three man-up goals, Southwestern's Cody Foster tied the game at 4-4 with 12:44 remaining in the first half.
  • Colorado College scored four of the next five goals to take an 8-5 halftime lead, capped by a goal by Tyler Borko with :10 remaining in the second period.
  • Borko scored the first three goals of the third period to extend the Tigers' lead to 11-5 with 2:36 remining in the third period.
  • Southwestern surged back with five of the game's next six goals and an unassisted score by Foster cut CC's lead to 12-10 with 7:03 remaining in the contest.
  • A man-up goal by the Tigers' Jack O'Donnell with 3:25 remaining provided some cushion and the final margin at 13-10.

  • Jared Welsh: 2 assists, 7 shots
  • Kyle Kuberski: 60 minutes in net, 18 saves

NOTABLES

  • The SCAC title is the fifth for the Colorado College program, and the first since 2014 after the league reinstated the sport following a championship absence from 2015-2018. 
  • Colorado College's Tyler Borko was named Tournament Offensive MVP and teammate Jack Ammons was selected Defensive MVP 
  • Colorado College is now 6-1 in SCAC tournament play with the program's only loss coming in the championship match of the 2012 event.
  • Southwestern's Zac Asbury ends the season with a SCAC single-season record 59 assists, shattering the former mark of 41. He also finished with 99 points, also a conference single-season high.
  • CC ends its season with an 8-7 mark while Southwestern finishes the 2019 campaign with a 10-7 record.
