LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. – Colorado College's Courtney Birkett and Texas Lutheran University's Megan Dugie earned a spot on the CoSIDA Academic All-District First Team on Thursday.
Both Birkett and Dugie received the honor for the first time in their careers.
Birkett, a senior right side hitter, was named Player of the Year by the SCAC and is a three-time Offensive Player of the Week winner this season. She posts a 3.61 grade-point average as a Biology major and is also a first-team all-SCAC selection.
Birkett led the Tigers to a program-best 33-2 regular season record in addition to a perfect 14-0 mark in conference play. She leads the Tigers offensive effort with 598 assists, 37 service aces, a .311 attack percentage in addition to 75 blocks.
Dugie, a senior libero, is a four-year letter-winner for TLU and has claimed two Defensive Player of the Week honors this season. She has a 3.92 grade-point average as a Kinesiology major.
Dugie helped the Bulldogs claim a 17-7 overall record and the #3 seed in the conference tournament. She is currently second in the SCAC in digs per set and ranks in the top 10 nationally in the same category.
Both Colorado College and Texas Lutheran University will compete in this weekend's SCAC tournament. Birkett and the Tigers hold the top seed while Dugie and the Bulldogs hold the third seed.
Voting is conducted by members of College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). The Capital One Academic All-America Team will be announced November 21.
To be eligible for Academic All-America® consideration, a student-athlete must be a varsity starter or key reserve, maintain a cumulative G.P.A. of 3.30 on a scale of 4.00, have reached sophomore athletic and academic standings at his/her current institution and be nominated by his/her sports information director. Since the program's inception in 1952, CoSIDA has bestowed Academic All-America honors on more than 20,000 student-athletes in Divisions I, II, III and NAIA, covering all NCAA championship sports.
