KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America released the 2015 Scholar All-Region teams Wednesday, and six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men’s soccer players earned the honor.
Colorado College dominated the West Region team, taking five of the nine available spots.
Jack McCormick and Trevor Houghton represented the defense for CC. McCormick is a junior economics major from Hudson, Ohio. He posted a 3.32 grade-point average. Houghton, a senior international political economics major, holds a 3.63 GPA. The duo anchored the CC defense that allowed just 0.67 goals per game, while posting nine clean sheets on the season.
Midfielder Soren Frykholm, a junior from Boulder, Colo. had a successful year in the classroom, earning a 3.80 GPA while majoring in Romance Languages. Earlier in the fall, he also earned CoSIDA Academic All-District honors. Frykholm notched three goals on the season, including two game-winners, and one assist.
Rounding out the Colorado College honorees are Nathan Andersen and Max Grossenbacher. Andersen, a junior political science major from Coronado, Calif. holds a 3.63 GPA. On the field, he posted seven goals for the Tigers, which ranked third among the squad. He also added four assists from 18 total points.
Grossenbacher, a senior biochemistry major from Austin, Texas, boasts a 3.81 GPA. This marks his third academic honor of the season after earning both CoSIDA Academic All-District and All-America honors.
Grossenbacher was named the SCAC Offensive Player of the Year after putting up nine goals and nine assists to lead the conference in both categories. He also record 27 points, a league-best mark.
Trinity University’s Derrick Horvath was the only other SCAC athlete represented, earning a spot on the All-South Region team.
Horvath, a senior engineering major from Fairview, Texas, posted a 3.79 GPA this year to earn his way onto the list. After leading a strong Trinity offense to another SCAC Championship, Horvath was named the 2015 SCAC Men’s Soccer Tournament MVP. He also earned All-SCAC recognition for his performance this season.
