MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Junior linebacker Luke Packard, Jr. of Trinity University and sophomore punter Logan Thompson of Texas Lutheran University have been named to the D3football.com Team of the Week.
Packard finished the game with five total tackles, forcing one fumble, and recovering another to be a part of two of Trinity's five forced turnovers defensively in a 23-13 win at Pacific Lutheran. Among his five tackles were 3.0 sacks for a loss of 11 yards. His first sack came on fourth-and-5 near midfield, stopping the Lutes and setting up the Trinity offense. The Tigers scored on a seven-play drive. Just after halftime, Packard sacked the quarterback and forced a fumble, leading to a Tiger field goal that put Trinity into the lead for good.
Thompson hit a 57-yard punt down to the SAGU 1-yard line that resulted in SAGU turning the ball over deep in their own territory. On the next play from scrimmage, Jake Bahr intercepted a pass and returned it 3 yards for a score. Thompson also had a career-long 67 yard punt that was downed at the SAGU 6.Thompson averaged 43.7 yards per punt. He also threw a TD pass on a lateral. He connected with A.J. Saucedo on a 48-yard pitch and catch.
Both players were named SCAC Player of the Week at their respective positions.
