MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Senior right-handed pitcher Holden Novak of Centenary College has been named to the first D3baseball.com Team of the Week of the season.
One of only three NCAA Division III starting pitchers on this week's team, Novak has tallied a league-leading two wins for the Gents and also leads the SCAC in strikeouts (16) and is fifth with a 1.50 ERA.
In his first start of the year against Louisiana College, Novak went all seven innings and allowed just three hits and an unearned run while striking out 10. He carried a no-hitter into the fifth inning where the Gents would go on to win with a 5-1 final.
His second appearance came against the No. 22 Patriots of UT Tyler. Novak's five innings of work resulted in six hits with only two runs allowed and fanning six batters. Behind Novak's arm, the Gents handed UT Tyler its first loss on the year.
The Gents currently hold a league-best 6-1 record with their only loss coming against No. 8 Birmingham-Southern. Centenary is back in action on Friday, Feb. 19 where they begin a three-game set against at Southwestern University.
