MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – D3hoops.com released the 2015-16 All-Region teams Monday morning and two Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball players earned a spot on the All-South Region team. Full Release
Texas Lutheran University's Sterling Holmes, a junior guard from San Antonio, Texas, earned first team recognition, while Centenary College's Travion Kirkendoll, a sophomore guard from Campti, La., was named to second team.
Holmes was named the SCAC Player of the Year and the SCAC Tournament MVP in February. He also earned three SCAC Player of the Week honors this season.
Holmes played and started in all 28 games for the Bulldogs, leading them to their second consecutive SCAC regular season and tournament titles. He ended the year averaging 16.5 points per game, third in the conference, while shooting .459 from the field and .446 from beyond the arc. He also grabbed 6.4 rebounds per game, and dished out 112 total assists – 4.0 per game – which ranks second in the SCAC.
Kirkendoll was the only underclassman to earn All-South Region honors. In 27 games, He averaged 19.6 points to lead the conference, while also snagging 7.6 rebounds per game and dishing out 67 assists – 2.5 per game. Kirkendoll also led the league with 55 steals, averaging 2.0 per contest.
Kirkendoll and the Gents earned the fourth seed in the SCAC tournament and earned a win over Trinity University to head to the semifinals for the third year in a row. The Gents fell to the Bulldogs in the semifinals to end their season.
