LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Beginning the 2015-16 academic year, men’s lacrosse will return as an officially recognized Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference sponsored sport.
“At the end of the 2014 season, due to injuries and roster attrition, the membership had fallen below our minimum standard of four competing teams,” said Commissioner Dwayne Hanberry. “After agreeing to assess the viability of the sport following the 2015 season, we are excited to announce that we are reinstating men’s lacrosse as an officially sponsored conference sport effective the 2015-16 academic year.”
Centenary College, Colorado College, University of Dallas and Southwestern University will be the four teams competing in 2016. In the previous seasons that the sport was sponsored by the SCAC, Colorado College was the regular season leader and won four of the five SCAC championships.
During the 2015 season, Colorado College earned its third consecutive postseason appearance, facing Endicott College in the first round. The Tigers finished the regular season with a record of 12-3 to earn one of just nine at-large bids for the NCAA tournament.
Centenary posted the program’s first win as they took down Defiance College at home. They ended the season with a record of 1-9.
Dallas, under the leadership of first-year head coach Keith Lindgren, posted a record of 5-12. This is the highest win total in program history for the Crusaders.
Southwestern posted a record of 6-10 during the 2015 season, earning the second-most wins of all SCAC schools competing.
All four teams will qualify for the 2016 SCAC Men’s Lacrosse Championship which will be hosted by the University of Dallas. The semifinal matches will be played Friday, April 15 with the consolation and championship matches following on Saturday, April 16.
