KANSAS CITY, Mo. – The National Soccer Coaches Association of America (NSCAA) released the 2015 Division III All-West Region team Wednesday, and six Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's soccer student-athletes earned a spot on the list. Full release
Trinity University junior goalkeeper Jane Thompson and seniors Emily Donnan and Kimberly Polasek were named to the First Team, while teammates Colleen Markey and Hannah Booher earned second team honors. The group of SCAC players is rounded out by Texas Lutheran University's Tara Armstrong on third team.
Thompson spent 1171:06 minutes in the net, allowing just four goals on the season and notching a record of 14-1-2. On the season, she posted 24 saves, recording an .857 save percentage, while allowing just 0.31 goals against.
Donnan, a defender for the Tigers, anchored the defense that allowed just six total goals through 22 games. She helped Trinity to 16 clean sheets, including multiple games where the Tigers allowed less than five shots. The Tigers' defense ranked fourth in the nation, allowing just 0.265 goals per game. Offensively, Donnan added to the Tigers' impressive attack, posting three goals and an assist on the season.
Polasek, a senior midfielder, played and started in 21 games for the Tigers, ranking third on the team with seven goals, while adding a pair of assists for 16 total points. She also added a pair of game-winning goals on the season.
Markey, a sophomore midfielder, played in all 22 games, making 21 starts. She led the conference with 10 assists on the season, while tallying three goals. She also led the conference with 73 shots.
Booher, a sophomore defender, was also a part of a strong Trinity defense that allowed just two goals to conference opponents. Before allowing a goal in the conference finale, the Tigers had posted 13 straight shutouts, dating from September 18 to October 25.
Armstrong, a junior defender for Texas Lutheran, was a part of the conference's third-ranked defense, which allowed less than one goal per game and posed 10 shutouts on the season. She also posted one goal and two assists, making her only penalty kick attempt.
Six student-athletes is the most that the conference has placed on the All-Region team since the 2012 season, while Armstrong's honor is the first by a non-Trinity player since 2011.
