TEMPE, Ariz. – The Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) released the 2016 women's tennis All-Academic Team Thursday afternoon and 17 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference student-athletes were honored, while five programs earned All-Academic Team recognition.
Trinity University led the conference with six members of the team receiving recognition, followed by four from both Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University. Schreiner University had two athletes on the list, while Austin College rounded out the group with one honoree.
All five of these teams were recognized as All-Academic Teams by ITA. The ITA All-Academic Team award is open to any ITA program that has a cumulative team grade point average of 3.20 or above (on a 4.00 scale).
For the Tigers, senior Gabrielle Roe, juniors Liza Southwick and Elena Wilson, sophomore Marie Lutz and freshmen Caroline Kutach and Hannah Cook earned the honors.
Southwestern was represented by sophomores Maranda Kahl, Emilie Moeller and Julie Swets, along with freshman Anna Schneeman.
Texas Lutheran senior Sofia Vega was joined by junior Macy Elliot, sophomore Megan InSchreiner Universityexandra Coscetti.
Schreiner University senior Karyn Swink and freshman Kara Miller represented the Mountaineers, while senior MegAustin Collegethe sole honoree from Austin College.
In order to earn ITA Scholar-Athlete status a player must meet the following criteria: 1.) be a varsity letter winner, 2.) have a grade point average of at least 3.50 (on a 4.00 scale) for the current academic year, and 3.) have been enrolled at their present school for at least 2 semesters (including freshman through senior year).
