INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – After earning the program’s 21st Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference championship, the Trinity University men’s tennis team has earned its 23rd overall and seventh consecutive NCAA Division III tournament berth.
Trinity earned a first round bye, and will face off against Sewanee. Sewanee is 18-6 this season and are ranked 36th nationally and in the seventh in the Atlantic South region. They enter the tournament after securing an automatic bid from the Southern Athletic Association (SAA).
The Tigers are 36-26 in NCAA postseason play, including a finish in the quarterfinals last season after defeating Wilkes (Pa.) and Mary Washington.
Trinity, led by Head Coach Russell McMindes, will enter the tournament with a record of 17-9. Only five of the team’s nine losses have come to Division III opponents. All of these losses came to opponents ranked within the top 11 in the nation. Overall, the Tigers are 5-5 against opponents currently ranked in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Top 25.
Earlier in the spring, Trinity competed in the ITA Indoor National Championship, taking fifth place after defeating No. 10 Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Washington University (Mo.).
