INDIANAPOLIS, Ind. – Five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference swimmers and divers have earned invitations to the NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championship in Greensboro, N.C.
The championships will be held March 16-19 at the Greensboro Aquatic Center. The Old Dominion Athletic Conference will serve as the host. A total of 527 participants (479 swimmers and 48 divers) will compete in the championships.
Colorado College's Olivia Dilorati earned invitations in three events: the 50 freestyle, 100 butterfly and 100 free. She has the sixth best time in Division III in the 100 fly, 55.22, and 16th best in the 50 free, 23.54.
Trinity University's Lindsay Hagmann, the SCAC Women's Swimmer of the Meet, earned invitations in the 100 free and 50 free.
Trinity senior Andrew Thiesse has earned a bid to the NCAA Division III Men's Swimming & Diving Championships in the 200-yard backstroke.
Thiesse was an NCAA alternate, and was brought to the "front of the line." He swam an NCAA consideration time by winning the 200-yard backstroke at the SCAC championship. Thiesse broke the SCAC Championship meet and open record with a time of 1:49.22. He has also been given the option of swimming the NCAA 400-yard individual medley, of which he won the SCAC Championship with a mark of 4:04.26.
According to NCAA rules, if a swimmer qualifies in an individual event, they are allowed to choose any two other individual events to swim, as long as they remain under the maximum of seven events.
On the diving side, Trinity will be sending Sarah Kate Mrkonich, the SCAC Championship Diver of the Meet, and Danielle Freund. At the NCAA Division III Region 2 Championships, the duo finished 1-2 in the three-meter event, with Freund finishing on top (484.75) and Mrkonich close behind (477.20).
On the one-meter board, Mrkonich took second place with a score of 419.00 and Freund finished in third.
