MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Junior defensive end Justin Broussard, Jr. of Southwestern University and junior linebacker Darian Candler, Jr. of Texas Lutheran University have been named to the D3football.com National Team of the Week for their performance last weekend.
Broussard, a Beaumont, Texas native, led Southwestern to its first win of the 2015 season, a 7-6 victory at McMurry. He led the Pirates defensive unit that did not allow the War Hawks to reach the end zone. Broussard posted nine tackles, including five for loss, and three sacks. He also forced a fumble. Broussard's five tackles for loss totaled 26 yards.
Broussard's performance also earned him the SCAC Defensive Player of the Week for week two of the regular season. The Pirates take on East Texas Baptist at home on Saturday.
Candler, a Humble, Texas native, collected a career-high 14 tackles (8 solo, 6 assisted) in the Bulldogs' home loss to Hardin-Simmons. Candler also notched a sack for five yards and 3.5 tackles for loss (10 yards in losses). The Bulldogs face Louisiana College on Saturday.
