IRVING, Texas – The University of Dallas announced it will be sponsoring women's golf beginning in the 2016-17 academic year. Dallas has participated on the course in the past, but will be committing to National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) sponsorship requirements with this launch. The move increases the Crusaders' NCAA sponsored athletic program mark to 15.
Dallas would also add to its total of sponsored Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC) member programs. Currently the SCAC contains five schools that compete in women's golf: Centenary College of Louisiana, Schreiner University, Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University, and Trinity University.
Previously the Lady Crusaders first played in 1994 under Jim Jackson, and have totaled eight years of appearances on the links in the history of Dallas athletics. Other years of participation include: 1995, 1996-97, 1999-00, and 2014-15.
Dallas resurrected the program in 2014 with two fall tournaments completed. A trio of athletes for UD would participate in both the Alvernia College (PA) dual on Oct. 13, and Hendrix College Dual on Oct. 18-19.
Head Coach Brent Perkins, who joined the Dallas staff in Jan. 2015, looks to complete his first year at the helm for the women's golf squad. Perkins guided the Dallas men's golf team during five tournaments this spring, and will lead both groups in 2015-16.
