MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – After a week off the court, the Texas Lutheran University men's basketball team earned a spot in the D3hoops.com top 25 poll. Full rankings
The Bulldogs (6-1) have posted five straight victories, including a win over No. 15 East Texas Baptist University on November 28. This marks the team's best start to a season since joining the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference, and dating back to at least 2009.
Texas Lutheran currently ranks second in the conference, averaging 83.0 point per game, while they boast the third best defense, giving up just 74.4 to their opponent. TLU also has the best shooting defense in the conference, with opponents shooting just .363 from the field and .233 from beyond the arc.
TLU junior Sterling Holmes, the 2015 SCAC Co-Newcomer of the Year has been a force this season, averaging 19.0 points per game, while pulling down 8.9 rebounds. Both of these marks ranks third in the SCAC.
Fellow juniors Zach Behr and Jordan Kouremetis have also helped the scoring attack, both averaging 13.0 points per game.
The Bulldogs will have two non-conference games before the holiday break, facing Illinois Wesleyan and Alma at the Trinity Classic December 19 and 20, respectively. They will return to the court on December 29 to face the University of Texas-Tyler before a rematch against East Texas Baptist on December 30.
