MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. – Marquis Barrolle of Texas Lutheran University was named a Preseason All-American by D3football.com Friday. Full Release
Barrolle, a running back from Ingleside, Texas, earned second team honors after a record-breaking 2014 season. The 5-foot-4 rusher was named the 2014 Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Year, while also collecting five Player of the Week awards.
The junior helped rewrite the Texas Lutheran record book, shattering the single season and single game rushing records with marks of 1,792 and 288, respectively. He tied the record for rushing touchdowns in a game with four against Louisiana College. Barrolle also broke the SCAC record for carries in a single game, totaling 50 against the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor in the Bulldogs first-ever NCAA football tournament appearance.
Barrolle finished the 2014 season as the nation's leading rusher, totaling 1,792 yards in 11 games, averaging 162.9 yards per game, the second best mark in the nation. Barrolle also averaged 188.0 all-purpose yards per game, which ranks fifth among all of Division III.
This preseason award is the first for the SCAC from D3football.com since 2012, when Trinity University's punter Kyle Trella earned second team honors.
