Katy Caine Tapped to Lead 2009 Tigers

SEWANEE, Tenn. - Katy Caine has been named interim head volleyball coach for the 2009 Sewanee team, according to Mark Webb, Sewanee's athletic director. "I am very excited to step in and lead this great group of girls. Hopefully, with a lot of hard work and dedication, we can take Sewanee Volleyball to the next level," added Caine.

Caine was the assistant coach for the 2007 Tigers and as an elementary school teacher, has worked at Sewanee Elementary School, Cherokee Bend Elementary School (Birmingham, Ala.) and Sumter Academy (York, Ala.). Previous coaching stops have included Mountain Brook High School (Ala.), Sumter Academy (Ala.) and with the Alabama Juniors Volleyball club program.

The former Katy Garrett is a 2004 graduate of the University of West Alabama (B.S. Education), where she was a three-year letter winner. In high school, the two-year All-State player was a member of two state championship teams and was the 1998 Birmingham News Metro Player of the Year. Katy and her husband, Adam (Sewanee Football's Defensive Coordinator) live in Sewanee with their children Riley (7), Walter (21 mos.) and Addison (3 mos.)
