Trinity Wins Seventh Straight SCAC Title

LOUISVILLE, Ky. - The Trinity University Tigers women won their seventh straight Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference Swimming and Diving Championship, following Saturday's final day of competition.

Trinity, which has won 10 team titles overall, scored 914 points, outdistancing DePauw (865.5) by 48.5 points. The Tiger men finished as runners-up for the fifth straight year, with 891 points. DePauw successfully defended its title, amassing 987.5 points.

Diving history was made early in the day at the University of Louisville's Ralph Wright Natatorium.

Tiger junior women's diver Hayley Emerick of Portland, Texas (Gregory-Portland), became the SCAC's first female diver to win three consecutive championships on each of the competition boards.

Emerick, the SCAC Female Diver of the Meet, won the 1-meter event Saturday, with a score of 469.45. Last Thursday, Emerick captured the 3-meter board, registering 479.45. Jill Greshowak of Hendrix won the 1-meter three times (2003-2005), and the 3-meter twice (2004 and 2005).

Eight divers have earned NCAA consideration scores.

On the men's side, sophomore Alex Miranda of Upper Arlington, Ohio (Upper Arlington), was named the SCAC Male High Point Swimmer.

Miranda repeated Saturday as the 200-yard butterfly champion, with an NCAA "B" time of 1:53.72. He also won the 500-yard freestyle (4:34.04, "B" cut), for the second straight year. in addition, Miranda took the 400-yard individual medley (4:02.71, "B" time, meet record).

First-year Lisa Tucci of Mission Hills, Kan. (Notre Dame de Sion), was the women's 400-yard individual medley champion (4:36.61, NCAA "B" cut).
