FREDERICKSBURG, Va. — Janelle Arita of DePauw
University and Katie Griffith of Trinity University, as well as the
doubles team of Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith of DePauw, were all
eliminated on Day One of the NCAA Division III Singles and Doubles
Championships at Mary Washington College.
Trinity sophomore Katie Griffith lost 6-1, 6-2 to eighth-seeded Grace Baljon of Williams in the opening round of the 32-draw singles tournament.
Ranked sixth in the Intercollegiate Tennis Association West Region, Griffith finished the season with a 13-11 singles record, and was 12-4 against Division III opponents. She played most of the year at No. 2 singles for the Tigers in dual matches, but also held a 3-1 record in the No. 1 slot.

play.
Arita, the 2010 SCAC Women's Tennis Player-of-the-Year, posted
a 17-7 singles mark this season and is 66-26 in her career.
In the doubles competition, Emory University's second-seeded team
of Zahra Dawson and Lorne McManigle claimed a 6-3, 6-2 victory over
DePauw's Greer Mackie and Kayla Smith in the bracket’s round
of 16 teams.
Smith and Mackie, who had won their last seven matches heading into
the NCAA doubles tournament, finished 23-7 this season. The
Tigers' tandem lost to the Emory doubles team by an 8-3 score on
March 20 in the only meeting of the year.
