Lynchburg will face Washington-St. Louis Dec. 4 at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium. The championship game is slated for Dec. 5. Trinity and San Antonio Sports are the co-hosts of the NCAA Men's and Women's Championships.
The Tigers, who played in their fifth quarterfinal round, completed the season with an 18-0-1 record. Trinity had previously beaten Lynchburg 1-0 in the 2005 NCAA third round.
Trinity first-year goalkeeper Katie Garrett of Cleburne, Texas (Joshua), stopped the first Lynchburg player in the shootout. The Tigers took a 1-0 lead as junior defender Danika Wright of Alpine, Utah (Lone Peak), put the ball past the Hornets' keeper. Lynchburg went up 3-1, before sophomore defender Allyson Thrall of Scottsdale, Ariz., closed the count to 2-3. The Hornets clinched the semifinal berth with the next shot.
Trinity struck first on Sunday, as sophomore forward Abigail Loar of Littleton. Colo. (Heritage), scored off a corner kick assist by junior forward Jordan Azar of Albuquerque, N.M., in the 14th minute. Loar, who scored her team-leading 15th goal of the season, produced a goal in each of Trinity's three home playoff games. The Tigers shut out Maryville (Tenn.) 5-0 in the second round, and edged Hardin-Simmons 1-0 in Saturday's round of 16. Azar picked up her eighth gassist of the season.
Lynchburg's Ashley Hoath evened the score at 1-1 with a goal in the 37th minute.
Garrett recorded three saves in the game, bringing her total to 38.
Trinity led 15-10 in shots, and 5-4 on goal. Lynchburg held a 6-5 advantage in corner kicks.
