CONWAY, Ark. - Rhodes College withstood a game-tying goal by DePauw University with no time remaining in regulation and answered with a game-winning goal by junior Lindsey Gurkovich just 51 seconds into overtime to take the 2009 SCAC Field Hockey title Sunday afternoon on the campus of Hendrix College. Box Score

After a scoreless first half in which Rhodes held a 7-2 advantage on shots, sophomore Libby Jones came through with the game's first goal - on an assist by Gurkovich - to give the Lynx a 1-0 lead with 25 minutes to play in the contest.

Rhodes appeared to have things under control as time wound down. Senior goalie Meghan Cullen stopped the Tigers on a pair of penalty corners in the waning seconds of the game, but DePauw's senior Jen Snow found the back of the net - her first goal of the season - off an assist from first-year Bridgette Shamleffer on a third penalty corner with no time left on the clock to force overtime.

But just as quickly as the Tigers had gained the momentum heading into the overtime, Gurkovich and the Lynx answered, as the junior forward notched the game-winner on an assist from junior captain Charlie Wagner just 51 seconds into the extra period.

Both keepers went the distance, with Cullen making two saves and DePauw's junior Liz Attewell making six saves. The Lynx outshot the Tigers 11-4 and held an 11-10 advantage on penalty corners.

Rhodes, who entered the tournament as the #1 seed, finishes the regular season with a 13-4 overall record and awaits the release of the NCAA Championship bracket in hopes of earning the program's first berth to the national tournament. The 13 wins represent a new single-season school record, and the title was the third for the Lynx since field hockey became an official SCAC sport in 2004.

DePauw finishes its season with a 12-8 mark.
