SCAC releases 2009 Field Hockey Tournament Bracket

SUWANEE, Ga. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference released the seeds and bracket for the 2009 Field Hockey Championship Tournament this afternoon. Hendrix College, in Conway, Ark., will host the tournament taking place November 6-8.

Rhodes College earned the No. 1 seed thanks to a 2-1 overtime win at Centre College on Friday. The Lynx swept the Colonels in the regular season to finish one game ahead of Centre in the regular season. Rhodes finished the regular season at 11-4 overall and 7-1 in SCAC play.

Centre earned the No.2 seed with a 6-2 SCAC mark, while posting a 12-4 overall record. The DePauw University Tigers narrowly missed the second overall seed and finished one game behind Centre at No. 3. DePauw was 11-7 overall and 5-3 in league play.

Rounding out the final two seeds are the Hendrix College Warriors (No. 4) and Sewanee: The University of the South Tigers (No. 5). The two teams split their two regular season meetings. Both Hendrix and Sewanee were 1-7 in SCAC play but the Warriors earned the No. 4 seed via head-to-head goal differential.

Play begins on Friday, November 6 with No. 4 Hendrix taking on defending conference champion No. 5 Sewanee at Noon CT. Play continues Saturday, November 7 at 11 a.m. CT and 1:30 CT. The championship game is slated for Sunday, November 8 at 11:30 a.m. CT.
