SUWANEE, Ga. - Colorado College earned the first ever SCAC men's lacrosse league win, beating Birmingham-Southern College 12-5 on March 27 while Southwestern University picked up the program's first ever win, a 9-8 overtime victory against SCAC foe Hendrix College.

Birmingham-Southern dropped a tough 12-5 game
with Colorado College to open SCAC play this weekend. The Panthers
(3-7, 0-1) jumped out early, controlling the first period of play,
scoring two goals early, but The Tigers gained their footing
quickly, scoring four unanswered goals before halftime.
‘Southern answered in the second half as Will Tullock
connected with Zach Hesson to pull the Panthers back to within one,
4-3, with 13:15 remaining in the third, but that would be the last
time the Panthers would be within striking distance of the
lead. BSC will travel to Sewanee on Wednesday in search of
their first conference win.
Colorado College earned the
distinction of being the first team to win a Southern Collegiate
Athletic Conference men’s lacrosse game by coming from behind
to record a 12-5 victory at Birmingham-Southern. Moses Taylor paced
the Tigers with three goals and three assists, giving him six
scores and 14 points during the last two games. Carson Christman
struck for a pair goals and set up two others, and has recorded at
least two goals and three points in every game this season. After
being held without a first-period goal for the second consecutive
game, the Tigers exploded for 10 goals in the second and third
frames to take control of the contest. CC has now outscored its
opponents 25-10 during the third frame this season. Brendan Haas
tied his season high with 11 saves and lowered his goals-against
average to 6.30. Colorado College plays host to Southwestern
University next Saturday in a SCAC game at Washburn Field.
Hendrix suffered a heart-breaking loss to SCAC foe Southwestern on Saturday afternoon. The Warriors were handed a 9-8 set back in its first sudden victory overtime affair in program history. Hendrix recorded a season-high 44 shots (29 on-goal) in the loss. The Warriors fall to 0-8 overall and 0-1 in the SCAC. Hendrix junior attacker Clayton Cersonsky touched the back of the net with 9:07 left in the first quarter for the game’s first score off a pass from first year midfielder Connor Corley. Southwestern evened the score with an unassisted goal just seven seconds later. Hendrix opened the final 15 minutes with two straight goals. Corley scored his lone goal off a pass from Wojcik and sophomore midfielder Alex Wilkinson scored his seventh goal of the season to even the score at 6-6. Junior midfielder Thomas Mock collected the game-winner on an unassisted goal 2:37 into overtime. Junior midfielder Jeff Appleton went 8-for-15 in face-offs. Hendrix sophomore goalie Keith Clemens turned back 15 shots in the loss, while sophomore keeper Donnie Murray made 21 saves for the win.
Sewanee picked up its first win of the season with a 16-14 win over Oberlin at Puett Field. Sewanee led 10-6 at the half. In the second, Oberlin had a late rally to pull to within two, but the Tigers held the Yoemen off for the two-goal win. Jack Thomasson led the Sewanee effort with five goals. Carson Pfeifer chipped in three goals, also. Stewart Calder logged nine saves in goal and earned the Tiger win. Sewanee out-shot Oberlin 44-30 and picked up 48 ground balls compared to 49 for Oberlin. The Tigers are now 1-6 and will open SCAC play against Birmingham-Southern on Wednesday night on the Mountain.
Southwestern earned its first win of the season in an overtime thriller on Saturday afternoon in Georgetown, defeating Hendrix in both team's SCAC opener. The score was tied at halftime and after Southwestern took a slight lead in the third period Hendrix came pouncing back in the fourth to force overtime. Hendrix won the face-off but the Pirate defense stopped the Warriors from scoring and forced a turnover that sent the Pirates screaming down the field. After a timeout to set up the offensive scheme, SU's Thomas Mock found himself open and took a great left-handed shot that found the back of the net for the win. Southwestern is now 1-8 on the season and 1-0 in the SCAC. They head to Colorado College on April 3rd to continue league play.
