HOWEY-IN-THE-HILLS, Fla. - Southwestern University, DePauw
University and Centre College all finished in the top ten at the
2010 NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championship held at the
Mission Inn Golf and Tennis Resort just outside of Orlando, Fla.
Southwestern finished in fifth, DePauw finished sixth and Centre
ended up tied for 10th.
For the fifth time the Southwestern University Pirate golf team
ended the National Championships as one of the top five teams in
the nation, this year placing fifth at 178 over par.
Southwestern senior Kristen Davenport matched her second round
effort, shooting an 81 the final day to end tied for 12th place
with Gustavus Adolphus' Taylor Drenttel at 324 strokes and 32 over
par. First-year Kelsey Coburn was on fire on her final day of
action, shooting the lowest round of the day for Southwestern and
second lowest for the tournament, with a 77. The great final round
moved Coburn into a tie for 18th place with Gretchen McLean of
Methodist at 35 over par and 327 strokes. Fellow first-year
Stephanie Scholer has played some of her best golf of the season at
the Championships and continued that run the final day ending at 10
over par 83 to come in 46th place over all. Senior Cody Wallace
closed out her final tournament as a Pirate well at 14 over par.
Her 351 strokes for the tournament landed her in a tie for 59th
place. First-year Erin Perry closed out the tournament in a tie for
93rd place with 375 strokes.
Southwestern was the highest SCAC finisher of the NCAA
tournament with DePauw coming in 6th and Centre coming in 10th.
Methodist was once again at the top of pack capturing first place
at 114 over par, 19 strokes ahead of second place finisher Gustavus
Adolphus.
DePauw shot a final-round 324 and finished in sixth place with a
1349.
The Tigers' Taylor Beaty finished in a tie for 22nd with a 332
after shooting a 79 today. Erin Kielty was 29th with a 336 and shot
an 84 in the final round. Natalie Gough shot a final round 78 and
tied for 33rd with a 338, while Kelly Gaughan tied for 50 with a
347 including today's 83. Camila Romero shot a 95 in the final
round and finished tied for 75th with a 358.
Wisconsin-Stevens Point's Jessica Urban shot a 77 today and finished with a 313 to earn individual medalist honors.
The Tigers made their ninth consecutive appearance at the
Championships which is topped only by Methodist's 11 and
Wisconsin-Eau Claire's 10. DePauw finished in a tie for 11th last
year and in the top four seven times.
The Centre women's golf team ended up 10th overall in the nation at
the NCAA Division III Women's Golf Championships after shooting a
1368 in four rounds of play. In the first round of action the
Colonels shot a 347, then they went on to record a 344 in the
second round, a 339 in the third round, and a 338 in the fourth
round.
Sophomore Emily Bachert ended up seventh in the nation overall as
she recorded a 319 after four days of play. After completing the
first round with an 83 she went on to shoot an 84 in the second
round, a 75 in the third round, and a 77 in the fourth round.
Senior Katie McKenna recorded an 87 for the fourth round to tie for
40th place. Freshman Whitney Miller tied for 64th place after
shooting an 88 in the final round and junior Paige Burton tied for
75th as she completed the fourth round with an 86. Senior Marissa
Cianchetti had a 90 in the final round and she tied for 99th
place.
