Trinity advances to NCAA Quarterfinals with 1-0 win over Hardin-Simmons

SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Trinity University got a goal in the 65th minute from Abigail Loar and made it stand up as the third-ranked Tigers advanced to Sunday's NCAA quarterfinal round with a 1-0 shutout victory over 13th-ranked Hardin-Simmons University. Brackets: Interactive | PDF

Trinity (18-0-0) advanced to tomorrow's quarterfinals against Lynchburg College. Lynchburg shut out Concordia-Moorhead College 4-0 in the other sectional game played on the Trinity campus. Sunday's game will begin at 6:00 p.m. (CST). 

The Tigers will compete in the quarterfinals for the fifth time overall, and the first since 2005. Hardin-Simmons, completed the season with a 20-2-0 record, and both losses came against Trinity.

The Trinity/Lynchburg winner will advance to the NCAA semifinals, to be played Dec. 4 at San Antonio's Blossom Soccer Stadium. The NCAA Championship game is scheduled for Dec. 5.

Saturday's game was a in stalemate until the 66th minute, when Trinity sophomore forward Abigail Loar scored an unassisted goal. Loar put in the winning goal on a breakaway play that was nearly saved by the goalie, but ended up slipping into the net.

The Tigers led 14-10 in shots, and held a 5-2 advantage on goal. Hardin-Simmons was a 7-4 leader in corner kicks.

Cowgirls senior goalkeeper Christi Carr recorded four saves, and Tiger first-year keeper Katie Garrett had two.
