COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Nick Rose of
the Colorado College men’s basketball team has been selected
as a member of the USA D-3 Basketball All-Star Team that will play
five games during a tour of Brazil in early August.
Rose, who earned first-team all-SCAC honors as a junior last
season, will travel to Orlando, Fla., for two days of orientation
and practice before departing for Sao Paolo.
"What an amazing opportunity for Nick to compete with other
talented Division III athletes and to represent Colorado College,
the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference and the United States
beyond our borders,” said head coach Andy Partee.
The 10-man squad will play three consecutive games in the city of
Jundiai on Aug. 5, 6 and 7, then travel to Rio de Janeiro for two
more contests on Aug. 9 and 10. In Rio, the all-stars will be
guests of the Brazilian National Military team as it prepares for
the World Military Basketball Championships in South Korea in
September.
“I believe the players on this team will be some of the same
players we see recognized as All-Americans in 2011,” says Ron
Smith, former director of basketball operations at Iowa State
University and organizer of the tour. “This tour is designed
to expose players to a great basketball experience while providing
a once in a lifetime opportunity for educational, cultural and
social growth.”
Rose burst onto the national scene last season when he led the
SCAC and ranked No. 13 in Division III averaging 21.9 points per
game. He also was No. 19 in the nation with a .875 free-throw
percentage.
The All-America candidate finished the 2009-10 campaign with 548
points, which ranks ninth on CC’s all-time single-season
list. He scored a career-high 34 points in a 93-89 victory over
Austin College, one of six games in which he eclipsed the 30-point
mark.
The product of Lakewood, Colo., led the Tigers in scoring 19 times
out of 25 games and finished the season ranked second on the team
with 144 rebounds, 47 assists and 40 steals.
Rose also led the conference in minutes played, finished sixth in
steals, seventh in field-goal percentage (.453) and 3-point field
goals made (47), ninth in 3-point field goal percentage (.362) and
11th in rebounds.
