Mason gets career win #200 in 71-36 victory over Sewanee

DANVILLE, Ky. - In his 11th season at Centre College, head men's basketball coach Greg Mason recorded his 200th career win as Centre beat the University of the South 71-36 on Sunday, Jan. 10.

The Colonels opened the game with a 7-0 run and wouldn't look back. Sewanee picked up their first points of the game two minutes and 11 seconds into the game.

Centre went on several runs in the first half and led at halftime 36-8 over the Tigers.

Centre shot 54% from the field in the first half and 63% from the free throw line, while Sewanee was held to only 7% shooting in the first half on 2-27 shooting and 80% from the free throw line, as they hit four of five.

Sophomore guard Jeff Mullaney (Louisville, Ky.) hit a three point basket to start the second half and to put the Colonels up 39-8.

The closest Sewanee was able to get in the second half was 33 points, which was late in the game, as Centre was able to dominate the second half to pull out the 71-36 win.

The Colonels shot 50% from the floor for the game and shot 63% from the free throw line. Sewanee was able to improve on their shooting in the second half as they shot 20% from the floor for the game, while their free throw shooting fell to 75%.

Mullaney led Centre in scoring with 18 points and he also had four assists, while junior center Alex Lloyd (Versailles, Ky.) recorded nine rebounds and two blocked shots. Senior Danny Noll (Ft. Mitchell, Ky.) had four steals and four assists on the afternoon.

Centre currently has an 8-4 overall record and a 4-1 record in the SCAC.

Centre will travel to Jackson, Miss. for their next competition against Millsaps College on Friday, Jan. 15. The game will start at 9:00 p.m.
