MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Rhodes announced today it plans to sponsor a varsity men’s lacrosse team in 2011-12. Rhodes currently sponsors a men’s club lacrosse team and will continue to sponsor the team on the club level in 2010-2011.
“Lacrosse is the fastest growing sport in the South,” said Rhodes Director of Athletics Mike Clary. “We are excited about providing an NCAA lacrosse opportunity to future students at Rhodes.”
In 2010-11 Rhodes is hiring an intern/assistant field hockey coach who will also serve as the women’s club lacrosse coach. “We look forward to the same growth and interest on-campus with women’s club lacrosse as we’ve experienced with our men’s club lacrosse team,” said Mike Clary. “We plan to monitor the interest and participation level of the women’s club lacrosse team to determine a timetable for sponsoring varsity women’s lacrosse.”
