GREENCASTLE, Ind. - DePauw University senior
Lauren Reich not only posted the Tigers' best finish at the
national indoor championships, but she finished with the top two in
competition today at the NCAA Division III Indoor Track and Field
Championships on the James A. Hollensteiner Track at the Indoor
Tennis and Track Center.
Reich opened with a second-place finish in the mile in 4:57.68 and followed it up with a fourth-place showing in the 800 meters in 2:13.55.
"In the mile I couldn't have run a better race," Reich said. "The winner ran her race and all I could do is hold off the other girls. I did my best to keep up with her, but she just continued to run her race. I always hoped it would be close."
"In the 800m I was a little tired, but I knew I had to fight for it. I had talked to my coach before and talked about it being my last race on the track. I was in last place going into the last lap, but I realized that I didn't want to end with my last lap on the indoor track in last place. Somehow my legs found another gear and I was able to move up into fourth."
With those two finishes, DePauw totaled 13.0 points and tied for 16th overall.
