MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - Millsaps College junior linebacker Will Hawkins and Trinity University senior running back Chris Baer were named to the D3football.com Team of the Week for the final time in the regular season. Both Hawkins and Baer led their teams to season ending victories last week.
Hawkins tallied a career-high 17 tackles in a 38-20 home win over Birmingham-Southern. He was named SCAC Defensive Player of the Week for his efforts. Hawkins also becomes the first Major since All-American Matt O'Bryant in 2003, to record 100 or more tackles in a season. Hawkins' 102 tackles tied for the conference lead.
Baer ran for 139 yards on 23 carries while scoring two touchdowns in a 44-10 home win ove Centre. He also caught seven passes for 85 yards and one touchdown for 224 all-purpose yards. Baer finished the season with 1,073 all-purpose yards and became the eight Trinity player to score 200 or more points in one season. He finishes his career ranked in the top-10 in every rushing category in school history.
