SCAC Swimmers Show Well at NCAA Championships

MINNEAPOLIS, Minn. - The Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference had nine student-athletes and three relay teams earn All-American honors at the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming & Diving Championships at the University of Minnesota Aquatic Center.

Catie Baker of DePauw broke her own school record and finished 11th in the 200-yard breaststroke at the NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships.

Her time of 2:20.39 broke her previous mark of 2:20.66. With the 11th-place performance, Baker earned honorable mention all-America honors.

Earlier in the Championships she finished sixth in the 100 breast and 13th in the 200 individual medley.

Teammate Katie Massey of DePauw placed 15th in the 50 freestyle in 24.26 seconds.

Meredith Angel of Centre is no stranger to the NCAA Championships, however, this is the first year she has earned all-American honors as an individual. Angel finished the 50 freestyle event in a time of 23.92 giving her a 12 place finish overall.

On the men's side, John Cook of DePauw notched honorable mention all-America accolades after placing 10th in the 100 free in 45.51 seconds. Cook also earned honorable mention all-America in the 200 free.

Jordan DeGayner of Colorado College finished ninth in the 200-yard freestyle by winning the consolation final on Thursday night to earn honorable mention all-American honors. DeGayner touched the wall in a time of 1:40.59, just .01 second ahead of DePauw's John Cook.

Sewanee's Courtland Day earned All-American honors with a 16th place finish nationally in the 200 breaststroke with a final mark of 2:05.94. In the prelims, Day set a new school and SCAC record with a finish of 2:04.22.

Hunter Hayes of Centre earns his second All-American honor in the 1-meter diving event. Hayes followed up his All-American accolade in the 3-meter diving event on Thursday by finishing the 1-meter diving event in 14 place; which is good enough for Honorable Mention All-American status.

The DePauw 400-yard freestyle relay of Josh Baugh, Johnny Montgomery, Steve Klabak and John Cook finished fifth in the final event of the 2010 NCAA Division III Swimming and Diving Championships. The Tigers earned all-America honors after finishing in 3:02.64.

The four swimmers also earned all-America honors in the 200 free relay and honorable mention all-America in the 800 free relay.

As a team, the Tigers totaled 90 points and finished 13th in the final team standings.
