SUWANEE, Ga. - Birmingham-Southern picked up another SCAC win, downing Hendrix 15-4 on April 11. The win keeps the Panthers a half-game behind the Colorado College Tigers, whom remain undefeated in league play. Sewanee also picked up a win during the week.

Birmingham-Southern got its second SCAC win
this weekend, defeating Hendrix 15-4 on Sunday. The win over
the Warriors also marks the first win for BSC inside Panther
Stadium this season. The Panthers (5-8, 2-1) dropped a
mid-week game to Whittier College 9-8 on Tuesday. The Panthers
dominated play on Sunday, leading from beginning to end with
six-goal second and fourth quarters. The Panthers will look to
make it two in a row on Friday as they host the Pirates for a 7
p.m. start in Panther Stadium.
Colorado College extended its
winning streak to five games by defeating Kenyon College and The
College of Wooster in slightly over 24 hours. It marked the first
time Tigers won two games during the same weekend in Ohio. Brendan
Gangl struck for three goals and added a pair of assists, and Moses
Taylor scored three of the first four goals as CC began the weekend
with a 12-9 victory at Kenyon on Saturday. James Mauk and Taylor
extended the Tigers’ lead to 4-0. Brendan Haas made a
season-high 12 saves and the Colorado College defense surrendered
fewer than six goals for the fifth time this season as the Tigers
cruised to a 12-4 victory at Wooster on Sunday. After the Scots
tied the game with 9:50 remaining in the first period, Haas stopped
11 consecutive shots during a span of 51:21 before Wooster added a
second goal with just 3:29 remaining in the game. CC held Wooster
scoreless on six extra-man opportunities, including four in a row
during the final 15:41of the first half. Carson Christman paced the
Tiger attack with three goals and an assist, while Mauk finished
with three scores. Toby Cohen recorded season-highs of two goals
and four points. Colorado College returns to Ohio for two more
games this week, including a showdown with No. 10 Denison
University on Friday night.
Birmingham-Southern College rallied for six goals in the second quarter to take an 8-2 advantage to halftime and added seven more scores in the second half to earn the 15-4 victory over Hendrix on Sunday afternoon at Panther Stadium. Hendrix falls to 0-9 on the season and 0-2 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play, while Birmingham-Southern improves to 5-8 overall and 2-1 in conference play. The Panthers out shot the Warriors 50-19 and won the ground balls battle 42-19. Birmingham-Southern took a 17-5 advantage in face-offs and was a perfect 11-for-11 in clear opportunities. Hendrix sophomore goalie Keith Clemens turned back 22 shots on the day and was just five saves away from tying his season high mark. Junior midfielder Dan Fox and junior attacker Clayton Cersonsky had two goals apiece. Cersonsky recorded a season-high eight shots on goal.
Sewanee went 1-1 this weekend and after dropping an 8-7 game to Fontbonne. The Tigers rallied on Sunday to edge out Mount St. Joseph 11-10. On Sunday, Carson Pfeifer and Pierce Leonard scored three goals each and Thomas Moore had two goals and three assists to lead the Tiger offensive effort. Jack Thomasson leads so far with 17 Sewanee goals. Spencer Graves held the back line in goal for Sewanee and picked up 13 saves. Sewanee is now 2-9 and will play SCAC foe Southwestern next weekend.
Southwestern had a much needed weekend off. They are currently 1-9 on the season and 1-1 in Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference play. The Pirates return to action this weekend with a game on Friday at Birmingham-Southern and then Sunday at Sewanee to close out the season.
