SUWANEE, Ga. - Former Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference baseball standouts Evan Bronson, Hunter Owen and Daniel Sarisky each are fairing well in their first season in professional baseball. Bronson and Sarisky are currently in the New York-Penn League while Owen is in the independent United Baseball League.
Bronson, a former standout at Trinity University, was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the 29th round of this past June's MLB First-Year Player Draft. He is currently pitching for the Vermont Lake Monsters of the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League. Bronson is 3-0 with a 0.59 ERA and four saves in 45.2 innings of work. He has yielded just three earned runs while limiting batters to a .160 average while striking out 37.
In his most recent outing August 27, Bronson picked up a win in pitching 3.1 innings against the Aberdeen Ironbirds. He struck out six, walked one and did not allow a hit. He was also named to the New York-Penn League's All-Star Game as a member of the National League. Bronson pitched one inning while striking out two and allowing one earned run.
Owen, a former standout at Millsaps College, signed with the Edinburg Roadrunners of the independent United Baseball League. The two-time SCAC Player-of-the-Year went undrafted but is producing for Edinburg. In 42 games with the Roadrunners, Owen is hitting .281 with six home runs and 25 RBI. He has scored 25 runs to go along with three doubles, 32 walks and three stolen bases.
Sarisky, a former standout at Oglethorpe University, was drafted by the Houston Astros in the 40th round of this past June's MLB First-Year Player Draft. He is currently pitching for the Tri-City ValleyCats of the short-season Single-A New York-Penn League. Sarisky is a combined 2-1 with a 5.00 ERA and 30 strike outs in 18 games with both the Greeneville Astros (Appalachian League) and Tri-City. In four appearances from August 6 through August 20, Sarisky did not allow a run, scattered five hits and struck out seven.
