ATLANTA, Ga. - In their September newsletter the Georgia Dugout Club named Oglethorpe head baseball coach Dan Giordano and former Oglethorpe pitcher Daniel Sarisky the 2009 Division III Georgia Coach and Player of the Year, respectively.
Giordano guided a roster with only two seniors
to its best season in seven years as the Stormy Petrels posted a
19-17 record for the 2009 season. With so many underclassmen on the
roster, Giordano did an outstanding job and has the Petrels
fortunes pointing upwards as we head towards the 2010 schedule.
Sarisky, meanwhile, dominated the mound as a
relief pitcher for Oglethorpe in 2009, compiling a sparkling 5-1
record and 2.98 ERA. Sarisky struck out a ridiculous number of 65
batters in only 40.1 innings en route to being an All-Southern
Collegiate Athletic Conference First Team selection. He was drafted
by Major League Baseball's Houston Astros in the 42nd round of the
2009 draft.
Voting was conducted by board members of the Georgia Baseball
Dugout Club.
