SUWANEE, Ga. - In exclusive voting by the
league’s head men's lacrosse coaches, Carson Christman of
Colorado College was selected 2010 SCAC Offensive
Player-of-the-Year, while teammate Zach Hoisington was tabbed as
SCAC Defensive Player-of-the-Year. Colorado College head coach Guy
Van Arsdale was named the SCAC Coach-of-the-Year.
In the same balloting, Matt Ivie of Birmingham-Southern College
and Sewanee: University of the South’s Thomas Moore were
voted SCAC Co-Newcomers-of-the-Year.
Christman, a sophomore attacker from Simsbury,
Conn., finished the regular season with 53 points on 32 goals and
21 assists. He led the league in just about every offensive
category including goals per game (2.67), assists per game (1.75),
points per game (4.42) and game winning goals (3). Christman is the
league’s first player to be named SCAC Offensive
Player-of-the-Year.
In being selected the league’s Offensive POTY, Christman
received three of five votes from the coaches.
Birmingham-Southern’s Jacob McPherson received the other two
votes.
Hoisington, a junior defender from Alexandria,
Va., helped lead a Colorado College defense that ranked first in
the SCAC in ground balls with 36.58 per game. He helped the Tigers
to a number two ranking in the league in both penalty killing (76
percent) and caused turnovers (nine per game). Hoisington tallied
one assist with 28 ground balls and caused 13 turnovers.
Hoisington received four of five votes to earn the SCAC Defensive
POTY honor. Cameron Overton of Birmingham-Southern received the
other vote.
Ivie, a first-year attacker from Alpharetta, Ga.,
tallied 38 points on 27 goals and 11 assists. His 38 points tied
for the team lead while his 27 goals were second on the team. Ivie
also ranked in the top 10 in the SCAC in points per game (6th
– 2.38/game) and goals per game (7th – 1.69/game) while
also totaling 30 ground balls.
Moore, a first-year midfielder from Dallas,
Texas, scored 16 goals and notched 6 assists. His 22 points were
good for third on the team lead while his 16 goals ranked second on
the team. He also ranked in the top 10 in the SCAC shots per game
by averaging 4.57 a contest. Moore also tallied a 25.0 shooting
percentage and totaled 24 ground balls.
Both Ivie and Moore received two votes in the Newcomer-of-the-Year
voting, followed by Davis Shamburger of Colorado College, who
picked up the remaining vote.
Coach Van Arsdale guided the Colorado College
men to the inaugural SCAC title in 2010. In his first season as the
head coach of the Tigers, Van Arsdale led Colorado College to a
perfect 4-0 SCAC record along with a 10-2 overall mark a 1-1 record
against teams that made this year’s NCAA tournament.
Van Arsdale received four votes from his peers in the COTY voting.
Marty Waters of Sewanee received the remaining vote.
