DePauw's Koors, Millsaps' Hawkins highlight D3football.com All-American selections

SALEM, Va. - DePauw University junior wide receiver Alex Koors and Millsaps College junior linebacker Will Hawkins highlighted the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference's four selections to the 2009 D3football.com All-American teams. Koors and Hawkins each were named First-Team All-American.

Trinity University's first-year kicking duo of Garrett Biel and Kyle Trella also earned All-American laurels as both were named to the third team at kicker and punter respectively.

Koors, who earlier earned D3football.com First Team All-South Region honors and was the 2009 SCAC Offensive Player of the Year, caught 73 passes this season for a school-record 1,266 yards. His 13 touchdown receptions were the second most in a DePauw season. He helped lead the Tigers to a 7-3 record and to their third SCAC title and the program's first appearance in the NCAA Divsion III Playoffs.

Hawkins, the 2009 SCAC Defensive Player of the Year, paced the Majors by tallying a career-high 102 tackles and a share of Millsaps' fourth consecutive SCAC championship. The Nettleton, Miss. native also was named to the D3football.com All-South region First-Team. Hawkins became the first Major since 2003 to record 100 or more tackles in a season.

Biel, who earned D3football.com All-South region First-Team honors along with All-SCAC First-Team honors, connected on 17-of-19 field goals and 31 of his 33 extra point attempts. His 17 field goals established a new Trinity single-season record while his four field goals against Rhodes set a new single-game school record.

Trella, who was named to the D3football.com All-South region first-team and was the SCAC Newcomer of the Year, led the nation in punting average by averaging 44 yards per punt. He set a single-game school record for punting average by averaging 48.8 yards per punt against Sewanee. Trella landed over one third of his punts inside the 20-yard line.
