LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Schreiner University has separated itself from the pack of Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's basketball teams after a record-breaking weekend.
The Mountaineers pulled off a big overtime win against Austin College Friday, behind a record-setting performance from Keenan Gumbs. The senior guard went 26-of-27 from the charity stripe, easily surpassing the previous record for free throws made in a game (19, Jonathan Blount, Centenary). Gumbs' 46 points in the game is the third-best single-game performance in SCAC men's basketball history, tied with Andrew Maddock from Colorado College (2/27/16).
The Mountaineers were able to capture a second win on the weekend Saturday against Centenary College to move to 5-1 in conference action.
Southwestern University and Texas Lutheran University didn't let the conference's toughest road trip bring them down, as they each went 2-0 against Colorado College and the University of Dallas.
Trinity University picked up one win over the weekend, taking down Austin College Saturday.
In the current league standings, Schreiner sits alone at the top, followed by Trinity and Southwestern with 4-2 records. Centenary follows close behind at 4-3, while Texas Lutheran comes in at 3-3. Dallas rounds out the top six teams with a 3-4 record. Colorado College (2-5) and Austin College (1-6) round out the group.
