TEMPE, Ariz. - The Intercollegiate Tennis Association announced the 2018 ITA Division III Regional Award winners on Thursday and two members of the Trinity University coaching staff were recognized.
Tigers' head coach Gretchen Rush was named the Wilson ITA Coach of the Year for the west region and Jacob Carillo was selected as the west's tasc Performance ITA Assistant Coach of the Year.
This season, the Tigers (13-11) won a seventh-straight SCAC Women's Tennis Title, defeating Southwestern University in the championship match to earn the conference's automatic bid to the NCAA tournament. Trinity closed out the regular season on a seven-match winning streak, before falling in the second round of the NCAA tournament.
The Tigers finished 7-7 against nationally ranked opponents this year, with all of those losses coming to teams ranked in the top-16 in the latest ITA poll. Of their 11 total losses, only seven were to Division III opponents.
