LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Four Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track and field teams competed last week.
For Austin College, Hannah Richards had a pair of first place finishes as the women's distance track teams had a strong showing at the Marc Randle Classic hosted by UT-Tyler. Richards set a school record in the 800 meter, finishing with a time of 2:26.15 to secure a first place finish. She secured her second first place finish in the 1500 meter race, setting another school record with a time of 5:00.75. The 'Roo women also got an eighth place performance from Alex Quinn, who ran the 5000 meter event in a time of 21:03.74.
The Colorado College women's track and field team captured three individual titles Saturday at the Willamette Opener in Salem, Ore. Samantha Gilbert continued her outstanding spring season by winning the 100-meter dash in a time of 12.86 seconds. Gilbert also finished second in the 200 in 26.62 seconds. Camille Weaver also posted a first and second-place finish on Saturday, winning the long jump with a length of 17'3.25" and finishing runner-up in the triple jump with a leap of 5'1.75".
Meanwhile, Duranya Freeman won the 800-meter race with a time of 2:26.77, followed in second place by Lily O'Dowd (2:31.88).
Asmeda Spalding finished third in the 400 in 59.91 seconds and Meghan Tanel led four Tigers in the top 10 in the 5K with a fourth-place finish, followed by Tessa Park in sixth, Audrey Nelson in eighth and Claire Tobin in 10th.
The University of Dallas women's track and field team competed in its second competition this spring at the Marc Randle Classic hosted by University of Texas at Tyler. Diana Hassink broke her own record in the Shot Put (11.98m, 39'3.75") and claimed 2nd in the event. Also re-breaking a record was Anna Brunk in the Pole Vault with a 2.90m (9'6.25"). That bested her collegiate debut mark last week (2.65m, 8'8.25"). Classmate Hannah Green also improved in the pole vault with a 2.75m (9'0.25") score.
Southwestern University and Trinity University competed in a dual meet over the weekend.
For the Pirates, Morgan Gilpin competed in the javelin for the first time and won the event with a throw of 28.71m. A pair of freshmen added to a successful throw day as Julia Glandt placed second in the discus (33.36m) and third in the shot put (9.29m) while Nacona Carter-Maddux was second in the shot put (9.81m) and third in the discus (29.91m). Jalynn Ashley finished second in the 100m with a time of 13.78 while Mallory Harkins was second in the 400m at 1:04.69. Both the 4x100 and 4x400 relay teams placed third while Sofia Garcia was third in the 800m at 2:36.14.
Trinity's women won the dual with a 94-21 victory and 12 top finishes in 13 events.
Stella Affognon and Abigail Schneebeck won two events each to lead the way for both teams. Affognon won both the shot put (11.25 meters) and the discus (34.20 meters), while Schneebeck took top honors in the 100 meter hurdles (16.04 seconds) and the high jump (1.42 meters). Androniki Defteraios and Abigail Romig also reached 1.42 meters on the high jump, but finished second and third. Defteraios was also the meet winner with her mark of 4.95 meters in the long jump.
Triniti Lemmons, Elizabeth Peters, and Andy Garza swept the 100, 200, and 400 meter dash races, respectively. Lemmons reached the finish in 13.21 seconds, while Peters finished in 25.67 seconds. Garza was the winner in the 400 with a time of 59.53 seconds. Jordan Juran and Molly McCullough were outstanding for the Tiger women in the distance events. Juran ran the 800 meter race in 2:24.70, while McCullough finished the 3000 meter run in 10:31.16 to take the gold.
