Southwestern's Osgood, Texas Lutheran's McArthur Headline Men's Golf Postseason Honorees

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. -- In exclusive voting by the head coaches of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference (SCAC), the league office today announced the 2018 men's golf postseason award winners.

Cade Osgood of Southwestern University was named SCAC Golfer of the Year, while Texas Lutheran Univerity's Matthew McArthur was selected SCAC Freshman of the Year. Southwestern Head Coach Greg Sigler was named the league's Coach of the Year for the third consecutive time.

Osgood, a sophomore from Austin, Texas, had a stellar season which included earning medalist honors at the 2018 SCAC Championships which was contested at Panther Trail at The Golf Trails of The Woodlands. He navigated the 6,908-yard, par 72 course with a three-round score of 222 (+6) and defeated Schreiner's Jason Lopez on the first playoff hole to earn medalist honors.

Following the season, the awards continued to pour in for Osgood as he earned Division III PING All-Region and First Team All-America honors, and was also selected as a finalist for the Jack Nicklaus Division III Player of the Year with a 73.14 scoring average. In addition to winning SCAC medalist honors, Osgood posted three additional top five finishes and placed outside the top eight only once in nine events. Prior the NCAA championships, Osgood's worst finish in any tournament this season was T14.

Osgood's selection as Player-of-the-Year marks the third consecutive year a Southwestern player has either won or shared the award.

McArthur, a freshman from New Braunfels, Texas, posted two top 20 finishes this season, including a tie for second with a two-round score of 146 (+2) at the University of Mary Hardin-Baylor Fall Invitational. He finished the season with an adjusted scoring average of 77.48 and was the 70th-ranked player in the powerful West Region.

McArthur is the second TLU player to earn Freshman of the Year honors in the last two years. Teammate Colin Uecker earned the award following the 2016 season.

Sigler earned Coach of the Year honors after leading the Pirates to a third consecutive SCAC title as well as a berth into the 2018 NCAA Men's Division III Championships. For the season, the Pirates posted eight top-five finishes, including victories at the Schreiner Spring Shootout, the West Region Invitational and the SCAC Championship. Southwestern also posted a fourth-place finish in a field of 30 and defeated seven teams ranked in the top 25 at the highly competitive Jekyll Island Collegiate Invitational.

Sigler is the first coach to win the award in three consecutive years since Oglethorpe's Jim Owen won the award seven straight years from 2000 to 2006.
