Top Seeded Trinity Scores Late to Defeat Austin College

- The Trinity University men needed two penalty kick goals in the final 10 minutes to squeak out a 2-1 SCAC Men's Soccer semifinal victory over Austin College Saturday afternoon on the campus of University of Dallas. Official Website | Postgame Interview

HOW IT HAPPENED

  • Austin College got on the board first with a goal from Thomas Quick, his 11th of the season, in the 36th minute.
  • The shots on goal was fairly equal the first half with Trinity holding a 6-4 advantage.
  • Trinity dominated shots and shots on goal in the second half, out-shooting Austin College 17-4 and 8-2 on goal.
  • Trinity played a man down from the 54th minute on after keeper Blake Lieberman was called for a foul on a breakaway attempt by Austin College.
  • Christian Sakshaug scored on a PK equalizer after Kamran Moussavi was taken down in the box in the 84th minute.
  • Brady Johnston had the PK gamewinner after a handball in the box was called against Austin College with 15.9 seconds remaining in regulation.

NOTABLES

  • This will be the sixth straight year that Trinity will play for the SCAC Men's Soccer Championship.
  • Trinity is 5-0 in its previous 5 trips to the championship final.
  • Trinity will face the University of Dallas in Sunday's championship match on the Crusader's home field. In Trinity's last four championship appearances, the Tigers have had to defeat the host school on their road to the title.  
  • This was Austin College's second consecutive appearance in the SCAC semifinal and third overall. All three appearances have ended with a loss to Trinity.
  • Austin College's Thomas Quick is the first player to have two career goals against Trinity in SCAC tournament play. He also scored a goal in last year's 5-1 semifinal loss.
  • Trinity's game-winner with just 15.9 seconds remaining is the latest goal scored in regulation in the history of the SCAC men's soccer championship.
