SCAC Men's Track & Field Recap - Week Three

LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The outdoor track & field season continued for teams in the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference..

Colorado College competed at the CSU-Pueblo Early Bird last week and junior Henry Baldwin highlighted their performance, setting a school record in the high jump. Baldwin finished second in the event with a jump of 6' 8.75", surpassing his previous record of 6' 7.5", set last season at the CC Classic. Ben Hall finished seventh in the event with a jump of 5' 10".

Peter Chapman posted a pair of seventh-place finishes in the shot put and javelin, while the foursome of Justin Nguyen, Sean Fite, Damon Hardwick and Andrew Edds finished sixth in the 4x400-meter relay with a time of 3:41.48. Hardwick also placed 10th in the 400-meter race with a time of 50.71 seconds.
 
Southwestern University, Texas Lutheran University and Trinity University all competed in the University of Incarnate Word Classic last week. The Bulldogs finished second in the event, while Southwestern took third. Trinity did not score.

For Southwestern, Devin Ross got the Pirates off on a high note with a first place finish in the high jump, clearing 1.93 meters. Tyler Adams posted a win in the hammer throw with a toss of 43.25 meters was second to only an unattached competitor. Sam Grubbs finished in seventh in the event with a throw of 40.12 meters. Adams also posted a top five finish in the discus, logging a throw of 38.24 meters and took fourth in the shot put with a throw of 13.30 meters. 

On the track, John Hattan had a top-10 finish in the 1500 with a time of 4:20.58. Miles Griffin snagged a fourth-place finish in the 800 with a time of 2:08.07 while the men's 4x100 and 4x400 relays of Brandon Jennings, Greg McDade, Brian McCutcheon and Tyrell Dunlap also finished fourth overall.

Texas Lutheran's Marquis Brown won the 400 with a time of 48.29, and Garrett Garza grabbed a win in the shot put with a toss of 15.55 meters. Chad Wieland and Jacob Guercia finished second in the pole vault and javelin, respectively. Wieland cleared 13 feet, 11 1/4 inches. Guercia recorded a toss of 144 feet, 4 inches. Also in the men's javelin, Richard Pacheco brought home a third-place finish with a mark of 140-11. Guercia also recorded a third-place finish in the men's hammer throw. Guercia registered a toss of 140-9.

Trinity's Jacob Hammond took the men's 3000 meter race, corssing the line in 8:54.79, while teammate Michael Erickson won the 1500 meter title in 4:04.11. Erickson also finished second in the 800 meter with a time of 1:57.45. The Tigers also earned a top finish from Cody Hall in the 110 meter hurdles, posting a time of 14.99 seconds. In field events, Matt Love was second in the discus throw with a toss of 48.87 meters. He was second only to an unattached competitor.
