LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The season got started for five of the Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference men's track and field programs as they headed to San Antonio for the Trinity Open.
For Austin College, Alex Quinn added a 16th place finish in the 1500 meter race, finishing with a time of 5:29.29, and Bailey Clark was 20th in the same event with a time of 5:41.33. On the men's side, Chris Biffar was 22nd in the 1500 meters with a time of 4:28.91, and added a 13th place finish in the 5000 meter event with a time of 17:50.25. Burhan Biviji placed 30th in the 1500 meters, coming in with a time of 5:05.35.
University of Dallas found some success at the meet, with Prince Giadolor getting off to a quick start with a fourth place finish out of 30 runners in the 100 Meter-Dash (11.17). Joseph Kilmer and Kevin McGuirk earned eighth in their respective events on the 800 Meters (2:06.48) and 400 Meters Hurdles (1:02.46). Marcos Carmona started the campaign in his hometown with a 32.96m throw in the javelin for 10th to round out the Crusaders' top-10 finishers. He also earned 11th in the discus with a 31.87m mark.
For Southwestern University, Joshua Im led the Pirates with a first place finish in the 10000 meter with a time of 34:22.00 while junior John Hattan was fourth in the 3000 steeplechase with a time of 10:49.86. In field events, Devin Rosas won the long jump at 6.50m while Brandon Jenkins was third in the high jump at 1.72m. Tyler Adams was third in the shot put at 12.54m and sixth in the discus at 37.11m. Sam Grubbs took home a fifth place finish in the shot put at 11.63m.
Texas Lutheran's meet was highlighted by multiple first-place finishes. Marquis Brown took the top spot in the 400m coming in nearly two seconds ahead of the second-place finisher with a time of 47.66 seconds, while Paris Foster earned first in the 110m hurdles with a time of 15.21. Foster was followed by Travis Roberts and Nathaniel Howell in third and fifth place, respectively. In the 400m hurdles, Ian Hons took first, followed by teammate Travis Roberts. The Bulldogs also took first in the men's 4x400m relay.
The Trinity University men's team posted five top finishes at the meet. Colton Hawkins and Benjamin Creasy were first and second in the 800 meter dash, with Hawkins posting a winning time of 1:59.04 and Creasy just 0.13 seconds behind. Michael Erickson took the men's 1500 meter run title with his time of 4:01.05. Trinity's men went 1-2-3 in the 3000 meter steeplechase, led by Jacob Hammond's personal time of 9:49.32 that bumps him to sixth in school history. David Buss and Daniel Henkes finished within a second of each other for the next two spots.
Barnett also had a pair of strong finishes in field events, winning the triple jump with a mark of 13.66 meters and taking fourth with a long jump of 6.16 meters. Barnett's triple jump is the fifth-best in school history.
