LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - The College Sports Information Directors Association (CoSIDA) released the 2018 Google Cloud Academic All-District Baseball Team® Thursday and three Texas Lutheran University players were recognized.
First-team Academic All-District® honorees advance to the Google Cloud Academic All-America® ballot, with first- and second-team Academic All-America honorees to be announced in June.
Dylan Drgac, Matthew Lemon and Riley Schaefer were all recognized on the District 8 First Team. The trio succeeded on the field as well, leading the Bulldogs to the program's first-ever SCAC Baseball Championship title.
Schaefer, a senior outfielder from Thorndale, Texas, made the most of his senior season, earning the 2018 SCAC Player of the Year award. In the classroom, Schaefer boasts a 4.0 grade-point average in accounting, and on the field he's been just as dominant this season. Schaefer posted a .434 batting average this year while slugging .665 with 12 doubles, three triples and eight home runs. He totaled 38 RBI and a league-leading 57 runs scored this season. He also ranked third in the league with 19 stolen bases.
Lemon, a senior outfielder from Caldwell, Texas, holds a 3.88 GPA as a biology major. During his senior campaign, Lemon hit .244 with an on-base percentage of .388. He slugged .417 this season, leading the conference with six triples. He also tallied 28 RBI and 24 runs.
Drgac, a senior pitcher from Caldwell, Texas, earns the recognition after posting a 3.57 GPA as a biology major. Drgac was also a key piece of the Bulldogs' pitching rotation, going 106.0 innings on the mound wiht a 2.29 ERA. He struck our 99 batters, the top mark in the SCAC, while allowing just 27 earned runs all season. He pitched four complete games and grabbed one shutout this season for a 11-1 record. He also earned his only save of the year in the SCAC Championship game last weekend.
