LA CROSSE, Wisc. -- Trinity University's Matt Love posted an All-America finish in the men's discus to open up the 2018 NCAA Division III Track & Field Championship Thursday in La Crosse, Wisc.
Love reached 50.49 meters in the discus throw, finishing in eighth place to become Trinity's latest All-American. Love surpassed 50 meters for the 12th time in his career, posting the best mark in school history for the national meet.
Texas Lutheran University advanced both relays to Saturday's final after qualifying during prelims.
The men's 4x100 team of Paris Foster, Michael Wong, Darren Jones and Marquis Brown posted a time of 40.93 seconds - a season's best for the Bulldogs. TLU finished second in heat No. 2.
The men's 4x400 team posted the fifth-fastest time of the day and set a new school record with a time of 3:12.27. TLU is listed seventh on the results sheet because the top two teams in the other heat receive automatic qualification into the final.
In Thursday's two 4x400 heats, the top-five fastest times all came in Heat 1 (the heat that contained TLU). The Bulldogs moved to the final with the squad of Zachary Velasquez, Eli Augusta, Wong and Brown.
Trinity's 4x100 meter relay team finished 16th overall with a time of 41.62 seconds, which is the third-fastest time this season for the Tigers. The quartet of Christopher Stewart, Christian Matta, Raphael Martin, and Blair Walker bested the previous school record for the third time this year.
