LAWRENCEVILLE, Ga. - Five Southern Collegiate Athletic Conference women's track and field teams competed last week.
A large portion of the league's teams competed at the War Hawk Classic in Abilene, Texas. Trinity University won the event with a score of 161 points, followed by Texas Lutheran University in third place with 86.5 points. Southwestern University, the University of Dallas and Austin College rounded out the field in 9th-11th places, respectively.
Trinity sent a large contingent to Abilene, though most of their distance runners traveled to Houston for the Victor Lopez Classic at Rice University. Abigail Schneebeck secured two of Trinity's seven individual victories at the event in Abilene, racing to the gold in both the 100 and 400 meter hurdles. She won the 100 in 15.40 seconds and the 400 in 67.46 seconds.
Mia Loseff won the pole vault with her mark of 3.35 meters, while teammates Hannah Whitney and Emma Pool both tied for second place in the event. Britney Sullivan had another strong day, winning the triple jump with a mark of 11.67 meters, as well as finishing second with her jump of 5.71 meters in the long jump. She broke the Trinity school record in the long jump, besting Corey Callahan's record-setting mark of 5.64 meters in 2012. Sullivan was also the lead leg of Trinity's 4x100 relay team that took first place in a time of 49.01 seconds. She was joined by Nkolika Nweke, Triniti Lemmons, and Elizabeth Peters on the meet's top relay team.
Nweke also took second with a time of 25.37 seconds in the 200 meter dash and Peters was third in the 100 meter dash, finishing in 12.61 seconds. Maia Muramoto took top honors in the javelin throw by reaching 33.14 meters, rounding out Trinity's women's team winners.
Molly McCullough took fifth in the 5000 meter run for Trinity's best placement at the Victor Lopez Classic, and the Tiger women had five runners finish in the top 20 in the event. Haley McFadden ran in eighth place, followed by Emma MacEachern and Brianna Ratliff in 13th and 15th, respectively. Melissa Whitman was 18th in the 5K race.
For Texas Lutheran, the Bulldogs posted five top-three finishes at McMurry, highlighted by a pair of first-place runs from Ashley Myers. Myers took top honors in the 100 and 200 meter dashes, posting times of 12.33 and 24.88 seconds, respectively. The team got second-place finish from Jada Jackson in the shot put with a throw of 11.61 meters, along with the 4x400 relay made up of Sandra Henderson, Ashley Myers, Felicia Ortiz an Kaitlyn Rodriguez. Cortnee Priour took third in the long jump (5.61m).
At Rice, the Bulldogs had strong finishes from Ashley Rynard in the 800 with a time of 2:13.70, finishing fifth in the event and moving up to third in Division III. Kylee Garcia posted a personal-best time of 5:01.21 in the 1500 meter run.
Southwestern had a strong performance from Sofia Garcia, who earned a third place finish in the 1500 meter with a time of 5:24.21 while also earning a fifth place finish in the 800 meter at 2:39.59. Trinh Ha placed sixth in the 1500 (5:31.63) and eighth in the 800 (2:45.08). The 4x100 team of sophomore Jalynn Ashley, sophomore Morgan Gilpin, sophomore Mallory Harkins, and freshman Chelsea Hogue ran a season best 53.53.
Erin Toro rebroke her school record in the shot put at 10.78m. Ashley was fifth in the triple jump at 10.53m while sophomore Gilpin was sixth in the javelin with a throw of 29.22m.
The Crusaders performance at McMurry was highlighted by a fifth place finish from Emma Kate Callahan, who notched a personal record in the 5k with a time of 20:59.91 for fifth place. Clare Hernandez also scored for UD, finishing in eighth place in the 5k with a time of 21:23.01. In field events, Diana Hassink threw a 11.22m in the shot put for fifth, while Anna Brunk matched the school record (2.90m) in the pole vault to finish sixth.
Austin College split up for the weekend, with Hannah Richards competing at the Bobby Lane Invitational hosted by the University of Texas-Arlington on Saturday, breaking her own program record in the 1500-meter event. At the War Hawks Classic, the 'Roos got a strong performance from Eden Llamas in the 5000-meter run. Llamas placed sixth in the event, coming in with a time of 21:09.28. At the UT-Arlington meet, Richards finished in 14th place, and becoming the first 'Roo women's runner to finish with a sub-5:00 time in the event in program history. Richards came in with a time of 4:58.70, breaking her own record in the process.
