LA CROSSE, Wisc. -- It was a busy day for student-athletes in the SCAC as four competed Friday, with two qualifying for Saturday's finals at the 2018 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track & Field Championship.
Texas Lutheran University's Marquis Brown qualified for finals in the men's 400 meter dash, while Cody Hall of Trinity University will advance in the men's 110 meter hurdles.
Brown reached the 400 final for the second consecutive year. Out of the nine qualifiers, Brown was ninth with a time of 47.51. The senior finished third a year ago in the outdoor 400 after winning in the 2017 indoor 400 national title.
On Friday, Brown clocked a time of 47.51 seconds. He will race in the 400 at 1:10 p.m. in the Saturday final.
Hall reached the finals after finishing second in his heat with a time of 14.61 seconds. Hall's time was the third-fastest among 19 total competitors in the prelims.
Hall was ninth in this event in his first trip to nationals in 2016, then earned All-America honors by finishing fourth in last year's 110 hurdles.
SCAC student-athletes also competed in two field events.
Henry Baldwin of Colorado College took part in the high jump, finishing 16th with a leap of 6' 6" (1.98m).
Garrett Garza of Texas Lutheran took 15th in the men's shot put with a throw of 50' 1 3/4" (15.28m).
